How to perform a sfc scan?

SFC scan (System File Checker) is a facility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. SFC scan will be useful in troubleshooting process of several errors.

Steps to perform sfc scan:

Windows 7 users can follow the below steps:-

  • Click on the Start button
  • Type CMD
  • Right click and run as an ADMINISTRATOR
  • Type the command SFC /SCANNOW in the command  window
  • and press <ENTER>

The sfc scanning  Process gets started and it will run for a while depending on the system performance. The below video can guide you how to perform a sfc scan in windows 7 operating system.

Usually on a good working computer, this process will take up to 2-3 Minutes.

If a Computer is OLD, there can be a Delay due to BAD CLUSTERS formed on a computer.

Windows 8 & 8.1 users can follow the following steps:-

Windows 8 users need to type cmd from Metro search screen to  find cmd , then right click on cmd in search results to see Run as admin option, and perform SFC SCAN. In windows 8.1 you can find cmd admin by right clicking on start button on the task bar.
